BioCrea awarded Top Innovator status for a second time

Radebeul, Germany, June 30, 2014 – BioCrea GmbH (BioCrea), the first-in-class CNS drug discovery specialist, announced today that it has received the “Top 100” award for 2014, which confirms BioCrea as one of the most innovative SMEs in Germany. This is the second time BioCrea has been listed among the “Top 100” most outstanding drivers of innovation in the country. The ceremony took place in Essen, Germany, on June 27 during the first German SME Summit, attended by more than 1,000 guests. The awards were presented by the “Top 100” scientific mentor, journalist and TV presenter Ranga Yogeshwar.

The “Top 100” seal has stood for outstanding innovation, scientific curiosity, and team spirit for more than 20 years. Since 2002, the Scientific Director has been the innovation researcher Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke from the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. The “Top 100” seal is awarded on the analysis of Prof. Franke, which focuses primarily on innovation management and innovation success.

The “Top 100” award winner, BioCrea, develops new drugs against diseases of the central nervous system, such as depression, autism and epilepsy, and then outlicenses them to pharmaceutical companies for further development. The critical factor in the selection of BioCrea was its innovation-oriented executive management. This is a crucial driving force behind the innovations, to which approximately 80% of the working time is devoted. The innovative strength of the drug discovery company also lies in the expertise of its 15 staff, who generate on average 12 proposals for improvement annually, 85% of which are implemented. “For the last two years, the management’s core task has been to implement, and continually improve our innovation strategy”, explained CEO Dr. Tom Kronbach.

“The ‘Top 100’ are remarkably successful in turning their ideas into commercial success. This is often the hurdle many other companies fail to clear. The top innovators meet this challenge through a deep-seated team spirit, efficient processes and often by involving customers and external partners in development at an early stage”, commented Prof. Franke.

Dr. Tom Kronbach, CEO of BioCrea, is delighted with the award: “We are very proud of successfully convincing the jury of the ‘Top 100’ innovation award of the quality of the work we do for a second time. However, what motivates us most is discovering new drug candidates to treat severe neurological and psychiatric diseases for which today, the treatment options are limited.”
